Having a beautiful lawn is largely about making the right choices and placing grass and ornamentals in the right locations. Choosing the right grass for your lawn can make the difference between having a low-maintenance, environmentally friendly lawn and one that is susceptible to disease, pests, and weeds.

When choosing the right grass to fit an environment, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each species and cultivar. What we’re talking about now is being able to identify the grass you should grow, based on where you live.

There are many types of grass available, and each area of the country is best suited to certain types. Some grasses grow best where it’s cool, and others do better in warm climates. Cool-season grasses like bluegrasses, perennial ryegrass, bents, and fescues grow throughout most of North America and are frequently sown as blends of several grass species for greater disease resistance. Lawn grasses are sold as seed, sod, sprigs, and plugs.
